Every year, our Crazy for CanLit feature gives you the chance to sample and discuss the best books of the Canadian publishing season. All the books of the literary calendar are displayed and are eligible for the Scotiabank Giller Prize for that year. Any one of them could be entered to become that year’s winner! We often use the Crazy for CanLit collection as a platform for discussions … and more.

For the 2016 literary calendar year, we’re excited to invite you get creative with the eligible books. Here’s what we have in mind:

  • Use the 2016 Crazy for CanLit eligible book list to build your own themed reading lists.

  • Lists can only be comprised of books from the 2016 Crazy for CanLit list, not from previous years’ lists, from non-Canadian book lists nor from lists of Canadian non-fiction or other genres.

  • Book lists can be based on themes, subject matter, region, types of characters, titles, book cover colours and elements, you name it. What are the interesting common threads you see when you peruse the over 200 eligible books?

  • A given list must have a minimum of 10, up to a maximum of 25 books. You can create as many lists as you wish.

  • Lists are not intended to predict the upcoming Scotiabank Giller Prize longlist or shortlist.

  • You must be able to present your book lists online in some publicly shared fashion – examples include Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, Goodreads, your own blogs and personal web sites, and other publicly accessible list making and sharing platforms. Your lists have to be somewhere online where we and other booklovers can enjoy, promote and share them.

To create your 2016 Crazy for CanLit reading lists, we are providing the list of eligible books for your reference in the following formats:
