What are you working on now?

I just started working on a novel. I have a new book of essays and a new novel at my publisher also.

What/who inspires you to write?

I have been writing since I was a kid. Until I became a Senator, it was the only thing I ever did. I am not sure I needed to be inspired by any particular thing.

What are you reading now?

I am reading the recent translation of Demons by Dostoyevsky.

What is your favourite CanLit read?

It depends. I liked Joel Hynes’ last book very much. The collected poems of Alden Nowlan. Alice Munro’s Something I’ve Been Meaning to Tell You, is a great collection of stories and one of my favorites.
