Remembering Alistair MacLeod – a literary giant, unfailingly generous mentor and much beloved friend, husband and father
(April 30, 2014) Alistair MacLeod’s works as part of the Canadian literary canon are deceptively modest in number, but immense in their power, influence and resonance. His exquisitely crafted words, his achingly beautiful images and utterly unforgettable souls live in our hearts. “All of us are better when we’re loved” concludes his iconic, internationally acclaimed novel No Great Mischief. As revered as it and his astonishing short story collections are, so was he beloved as an academic, mentor, colleague, stalwart of many communities, and devoted friend, husband and father.
(February 24, 2014) "Beyond the acute personal loss, Mavis was beloved by generations of readers. She had a piercing eye and an unflinchingly honest voice in her fiction. She will be missed, and remembered always." -- Jack Rabinovitch
